Empowering Through Education: Assistant Director Nikki Schwarz Presents the Northeast Experience
Meet Nikki Schwarz.
Assistant Director of Admissions
As Nikki Schwarz knows, first impressions are vital. That鈥檚 why, in her role as assistant director of admissions for the chiropractic program, she has become passionate about telling the #NortheastBlue story to prospective students.
鈥淎s someone who has had many different jobs, I love the idea of helping people get on the right career path鈥攚hich led me to admissions,鈥 Schwarz said.
Joining the College in 2021, Schwarz initially worked as an admissions counselor for the Doctor of Chiropractic program. 鈥淚 had a pool of students I worked with one-on-one and a territory of schools to travel and present to about Northeast,鈥 she said. 鈥淪even months later, I was promoted to my current role.鈥
Now, she oversees and supports a team of counselors and trains and supervises student ambassadors, while also assisting with strategic management efforts in the admissions department.
Those efforts often lead to events that sound, well, fun. 鈥淔or example,鈥 she says, 鈥渋n the spring trimester we turned our campus tour into a Visit Experience which included a student-led campus tour and lunch with a faculty member. Visitors meet with their admissions counselor, and we send them home with brand new 九色导航 swag!鈥
Schwarz finds it easy to convince students of the value of the Northeast experience, because she has seen it first-hand.
鈥淭he small size of Northeast creates such a tightly knit community. I felt welcomed from day one. There is a lot of collaboration, which I enjoy. The staff and faculty are passionate about what they do and are completely dedicated to the students. Everything done here is with the intent to make the 九色导航 experience better for the students.鈥
Schwarz previously worked as an administrative coordinator for the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn, where she currently lives. She has also worked as a self-employed instructor for wellness and development workshops, teaching groups about life balance, communication, and personal growth. 鈥淲ellness and personal growth are extremely important to me, and I鈥檝e even created and led workshops about those topics,鈥 she says.
Currently, she is working on ideas to make it even easier for potential students to get a sense of the Northeast community. Recently, for example, she purchased professional gear for tour guides to wear so that they are more visible and able to answer questions asked by visitors. Having earned her MBA in 2022 from Fitchburg State University, she is eager to bring even more best-practice skills to her work at Northeast. 鈥淚鈥檝e put so much of what I was taught into practice within my job and my life,鈥 she says.
A Few Questions with Assistant Director of Admissions Nikki Schwarz.
What is something you are most proud of in your past accomplishments before coming to 九色导航?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to pursue my MBA online from Fitchburg State University. I began in the fall of 2020 and was still working on my degree when I started at Northeast but went on to graduate in May 2022 with a concentration in HR Management.听
Tell us a little about your background?
I earned my bachelor鈥檚 degree in vocal performance from Ithaca College. I was a serious flute player and a trained actor and dancer, as well. As I pursued performing, I always had a day job which led me to work in many places including a bookstore, a visual arts center, a performing arts center, multiple hotels, a real estate office and more. I continue to be passionate about performing music professionally, but ultimately decided I wanted to keep it on the side and pick the projects I truly wanted to be a part of.
What else would you like us to know about you?
I have an album on iTunes called 鈥淯se What You Got鈥 and have my own website at . I have created and performed in multiple cabaret shows. I was part of a multicultural vocal group called 鈥楾he Honey Child Soul Quintet,鈥 based in Ithaca for 10 years that performed music at schools, churches and other community venues in the pursuit of unity and social change. I was a lead character in a short film that was recently completed. I think hobbies and creative projects are important for everyone to keep joy and balance in our lives.
